Ontology Engineering for Simulation Component Reuse

چکیده
aBStRaCt Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Simulation Packages (CSP) are widely used in industry primarily due to economic factors associated with developing proprietary software platforms. Regardless of their widespread use, CSPs have yet to operate across organizational boundaries. The limited reuse of CSPs is affected by the same semantic issues that restrict the inter-organizational use of software components and Web services. The current representations of Web components are predominantly syntactic in nature lacking the fundamental semantic underpinning required to support discovery on the emerging Semantic Web. We present new research that partially alleviates the problem of limited semantic interoperability and reuse of simulation components in CSPs. Semantic models, in the form of ontologies, utilized by Web service discovery and deployment architecture provide one approach to support simulation model reuse. Although specific to CSPs this work has wider implications for the simulation community.

متن کاملOntology Composition using a Role Modeling Approach
There is an increasing use of ontologies to represent domain knowledge, however, no notion of ontology components has so far been established. This lack hampers partial reuse of ontologies and makes a reuse-oriented engineering approach difficult. We propose to enable component-based ontology engineering by bringing together ontologies and role modeling, a well-known modeling paradigm from the ...

متن کاملAn Exercise in Ontology Driven Trajectory Simulation with Matlab Simulink®
We demonstrate an application of the ontology driven methodology to develop trajectory simulations in a function-oriented style. We adopt a model based approach to software development, guided by the domain engineering process, to promote knowledge and software reuse. MATLAB Simulink® block definitions have been generated from the function specifications in the Trajectory Simulation Ontology, c...
متن کاملA semantic platform to support software artifacts reuse
In this paper, we present the SENTINEL (Semantic ENTerprIse NEtcentric Layer) platform, for semantic enrichment of and access to software libraries with the aim of supporting the reuse of software artifacts by exploiting domain reference knowledge. The platform provides methods and tools for: domain engineering aimed at building a reference ontology specific for the application domain the softw...
